To Our Children's Children: Preserving
Family Histories for Generations to Come
If you are really serious about writing your own story about your life and are willing to answer the questions in an honest and direct way this book is for you! My Dad and I are both using this book to write a two generation family life story. The questions in this book bring back many memories, some good and some painful but it helps to write it all out. I have not found a book that is as easy to work with. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is interested in remembering the past and preserving it for their children and future family members.
The
Unpuzzling Your Past Workbook : Essential Forms and Letters for All
Genealogists (1st Edition)
This book appears to be about 250 pages (un-numbered). It's complete with basic forms such as pedigree and family group sheets, but goes beyond with census extraction forms & check lists, Military Record checklists, research planning worksheets and contact logs. Croom's has included completed examples of these forms which make it easy to understand. Very helpful to new and intermediate users.
The Handybook for Genealogists : United States of
America (9th Edition)
This is an absolutely wonderful
sourcebook for working with various government records (Federal, state, and
county) for geneology. It tells you very precisely what type of records are
available over what time for individual jurisdictions. It is really quite
amazing, for example, to find out the specific years that land title
information is available for a specific county. The book is a treasure
trove, in that it gives you all of the contact information you need to get
in touch with various information sources. Just an amazing book! This is a
great book to have.
A Student's Guide to Native American Genealogy
This handsome book reveals the fascination & fun of doing your own family research to find American Indian/Native American ancestry. Excellent resources given in clear, interesting text. Great reading!
The Source: A Guidebook of American Genealogy
I went through a lot of genealogy books looking for the right one to help me along on my search for my ancestors. When I hit the book THE SOURCE A GUIDEBOOK OF AMERICAN GENEALOGY, I hit paydirt. It is my bible to my genealogical research. It covers every conceivable category and helps the beginner as well as the pro on where to search out answers, where to get information on vital records, tracking through lineage organizations and individual chapters on select ethnic groups. One of the best chapters is on Tracking Urban Ancestors for those of us who are tracking relations who lived in big cities. This book should be on every family historians home library shelf!
Tracing Your Civil War Ancestor
My father purchased a Civil War era pistol engraved with the name of the owner and his regiment. He turned to me and my years of genealogical research experience to help him find information on the gun's owner. I was at a loss because I had avoided the maze of military research, not knowing the how's and where's. Well, not any more! Bertram Groene's "Tracing Your Civil War Ancestor" answered years of questions I've had in a clear, concise and very readable book. Not only do I now know where to find information for my father, but I can delve into the military background of my Civil War ancestors and my Revolutionary War ancestors. Anyone who served in innumerable wars can be found using Groene's book. A must have for your library because you're bound to have a vet.
Organizing Your Family History Search:
I have been caught up in this addictive hobby of genealogy for fifteen
years now and have over the years tried many different ways of dealing
with my ever-increasing pile of info and documents. I had tried folders
and various types of filing systems; I had even tried my own numbering and
coding systems with disastrous consequences; they just didn't work. |
